The investigation into the death of a popular slasher movie actress is complicated by a series of frame-ups, double crosses, and blackmail attempts.

The team investigates the murder of Weatherley Adams, a horror/slasher film actress found on the set with an ax in her back. The autopsy reveals that she was gored but that the ax wasn't the murder weapon. There was also too little blood at the scene leading them to believe the body was moved. When Ronnie Lake discovers a second body at the studio hanging from the rafters, she also comes face to face with the killer. Sara Sidle despairs at having to face 'death everyday.

After countless bloody screen deaths in sleazy Vegas horror productions, Weatherley Adams dies 'forever' on set, at night. Yet the ex in her back wasn't fatal, unlike a mystery blade. One suspect is her former colleague and lover Oliver Zarco, who was mutilated in a set fire seasons ago. The brothers Vincent, Mason and Dickie Lafoon, who own the set, suggested him as suspect, but are found lying about the entry and security camera. Meanwhile another crime is in the making.

Stereotypes are challenged as four attractive gay men unfairly judge their neighbor, Eddie, who doesn't fit the "West Hollywood" mold.

Four classically handsome, worked out, gay men get together for their regular Sunday brunch on the patio, and while they are eating, their neighbor, Eddie, comes home from his day job. They act very coldly to Eddie, since he is not classically handsome or worked out, and they do not invite him to join them for brunch. In a huff, he goes to his apartment, saying that he has to get ready for his appointments anyway. What appointments they wonder? They soon find out, much to their surprise, delight, and astonishment, but will jealousy ensue?

Picard finds himself facing a strenuous test of his loyalty to Starfleet, one which the other members of the crew are struggling to cope with, whilst Wesley faces an equally challenging entrance exam at Starfleet Academy.

Wesley is off to complete his Starfleet entrance exams and testing and makes friends with Mordock, another of the four candidates seeking admission. Only one of the four will be accepted into the Academy and the competition will be strong. Wesley is particularly worried about the psychological evaluation which will focus on what he fears most. He has no idea what that is, however. Picard's old friend, Admiral Gregory Quinn requests to be beamed aboard and arrives with Commander Remick from the Inspector General's office. Remmick is there to conduct a complete investigation of the ship's operations. His very presence is unnerving to both the Captain and the bridge crew and his questions to the senior officers all seem to indicate that it is Captain Picard who is under investigation with his decisions, judgment and reliability all in question.

Wesley is stressed about the annual competition between four ace students for a place in Starfleet Academy. He proves his academic superiority even to a Vulcan, but due to his own generous assistance to runner-op alien Mordock, all still hangs on the 'psych test' he so feared. Meanwhile the Enterprise, staying around, gets a surprise visit from Picard's friend admiral Gregory Quinn, who refuses to state the purpose of a full, apparently hostile audit of the starship by Lt. Cmdr. Dexter Remmick from the inspector-general's office. Afterward, Picard must make a career-crucial choice.
